Of Roses and Jars
One of the myths that is part of Mary Magdaleneâs legend is related to the death of Jesus. It is told that where her tears fell to the ground as she wept, roses grew. And as she ran from her homeland and traveled to France, anywhere her tears touched the earth, roses grew. Or so they say. Mary Magdalene has become entwined with the mythos of roses because of this part of her story.
There is also the alabaster jar, a tool of healing, wealth, and prosperity. The roses and the jar are two signs of the power and wisdom of Mary Magdalene.
Roses
Roses are known as the flower of love. The petals, the hips, the waters, and the oils made from roses are all ingredients in love spells. And yet, even the flower of love comes with a price. Have you ever been pricked by a rose thorn? If youâve ever picked a rose, you likely have. Love comes with a priceâand sometimes a little pain. No one knows this lesson better than Mary Magdalene.
Where Mary Magdaleneâs tears fell, roses grew from the ground. There are stories across the planet of entities, deities, and other ethereal beings crying or bleeding and then a sacred or special plant growing where the tears or blood fell. Each of us has a special relationshipâor the potential for a special relationshipâwith green bloods, also known as plants.
So, considering that, I ask you, dear heretic, what plants would grow from your falling tears? What is your scent? What aromas bring you peace, joy, happiness, and inspiration?
You may already know your plant allies, or maybe this concept is a totally new one to you. Either way, letâs take some time to connect to a special green blood.
Meeting Your Plant Ally
Plant allies provide us with a lot of personal information. Plant allies show up when we are ill, and they have the medicine our bodies need. They offer information on where we may need growth or healing. Plant allies guide us the same way animal allies, ancestors, and deities might. These allies can also help us connect more deeply to the natural world.
Perform the following working when you can be alone for up to thirty minutes. You will want to be undisturbed, so leave your phone in another room. Sit or lie down and let your body be as comfortable as possible.
Trance: Breathe deeply and allow yourself to relax. Focus on a deep inhale, calling in the wisdom of the world. (Pause.) Focus on a deep exhale, releasing what doesnât serve you in this moment. (Pause.) Repeat this inhale of wisdom and exhale of release. Take your time and breathe slowly, allowing each breath to bring your awareness deeper and relaxing your body. (Long pause.)
Shift your awareness by opening your witchâs eye, that third eye that sits just above and between your normal seeing eyes. When this eye is fully open, you see before you a vast garden.
Every plant that has ever existed lives in this garden.
